Pasadena, Texas, has one of the best Independence Day celebrations in the area. 4th Fest at the Pasadena Fairgrounds is a free annual tradition that brings the entire community together with games, food, fireworks, and fun. Gates open at 2 PM, with full festivities underway by 4 PM and a fireworks show starting around 9:15 PM.

“There’s something for everyone, no matter your interest,” says Jason Ross, Director of the Pasadena Parks Department. “The events are tailored to adults and kids, from car shows to egg and spoon competitions.”

This is a particularly special year as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary. Attending 4th Fest is a great way to spend the holiday with your family while learning about Pasadena’s history and current activities around town.

4th Fest Attracts Nearly 8,000 Attendees

4th Fest is one of the biggest festivals in Pasadena and the greater Houston area. The parks and recreation team expects between 7,000 and 8,000 people to attend this year. Fortunately, because this is such a strong tradition in Pasadena, it’s a well-run event with plenty of parking, cooling stations, and activities to keep visitors entertained.

The festival features live musical performances, a midway with craft and food vendors, amusement rides, a petting zoo, a dunk tank, and various games throughout the day. Visitors can walk around the car show or dance the afternoon away with various DJs.

The parks department is also working to keep attendees safe. They will have cooling centers, hydration stations, misting tents, and even sensory hubs for kids who get overwhelmed and need to step away for a bit.

“We encourage guests to visit our vendors to enjoy 4th Fest snow-cones, agua fresca, ice cream, and lemonade,” says Ross. “The city is also handing out water for free.”

Alcohol is not allowed at 4th Fest and will not be sold by vendors. This is designed to be a fun, family-friendly event.

Visitors Can Cool Off in the Conference Center

The Pasadena Convention Center and Municipal Fairgrounds will be open during 4th Fest and serve as a cooling center to take a break from the summer heat. It will also offer opportunities to learn about Pasadena's history.

The Pasadena Heritage Park and Museum will bring over a display called the “Doctor’s Station,” featuring a dentist’s office from the 1890s, allowing visitors to see what medical treatment was like 130 years ago. There will also be objects from two time capsules the city recently opened, so visitors can see what items were important to Pasadena residents of yore.

“This is a great way to engage people in our city’s history,” says Dr. Jo Estrada, Manager of Visit Pasadena. “Anyone who is interested in these displays can learn more about the region by visiting the museum during their time here.”

The conference center also offers bathroom facilities and hydration stations.

This is a Rain or Shine Event

Pasadena is often lucky and enjoys sunny weather on Independence Day, but the parks department is prepared to move forward if it rains. Guests can bring their umbrellas, rain boots, and festive spirit as they enjoy the available shelters at the Pasadena Fairgrounds.

“We have some great team members who are ready for anything,” says Ross.

The city has already published a map of the event so visitors can plan where to park. There will be plenty of signage to help attendees find the right parking spaces for their needs and access the Fairgrounds.
