Good food, engaging art, and perfect park vibes – what more could you want?

Join us at Crenshaw Park on Friday, June 19, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for Pasadena’s first-ever Art Walk, presented by Visit Pasadena in collaboration with Texas Markets. As Visit Pasadena continues expanding its focus on arts and culture as a way to strengthen community engagement, residents and visitors can expect to see more opportunities celebrating local artists, musicians, and creative experiences in the months ahead.

With Texas Markets bringing vibrant night market experiences to communities across the region this summer, we knew this was the perfect opportunity to collaborate and introduce a new arts-focused event to Pasadena.

The evening will feature local artists showcasing a variety of artistic mediums, live demonstrations, muralists painting in real time, and nearly 50 market vendors offering unique handmade goods, fresh products, and specialty items. Whether you're looking to shop, support local creatives, enjoy great food, or simply spend a relaxing evening outdoors, Pasadena’s first Art Walk promises something for everyone.

Come experience the creativity, community, and culture that make Pasadena unique.

“It’s going to be such a fun add-on to your evening walk,” says Kayla Henslee, Manager of Texas Markets. “Crenshaw Park is great. It has a huge pavilion with fans, there’s a big walking track, and sports fields for kids to play on during the event.”

The Art Walk Provides a Free Opportunity to Meet Local Artists

The goal of Livin’ La Vida Local - Bites and Brushstrokes is to celebrate Pasadena's artistic community while offering residents a free opportunity to explore the work of local creatives. There will be multiple live demonstrations as artists showcase how they create their pieces and share the inspiration behind some of them. The art walk will also have pieces for sale, so residents and visitors can decorate their homes with their favorite Pasadena art.

A few local artists planning to attend include Adrian Avila, David Maldonado, Donkeeboy, and MAL, if you want to check out their work ahead of time.

“We intentionally wanted to showcase artists who engage with different media and who come from all backgrounds,” says Jo Estrada, Manager at Visit Pasadena. “The live demonstrations are brought to you by local artists who are passionate about creating a thriving art scene right here in Pasadena. Art is about sharing different perspectives, challenging common ideas, and self-expression. We love what all of our artists bring to the table, and we're excited to create more opportunities for artists and the community to connect through creative experiences.”

The National Endowment for the Arts' WE-Making report found that place-based arts and cultural practices help grow social cohesion and community well-being, while creating opportunities for community engagement, inclusion, and neighborhood revitalization.

The art walk is still accepting artists, and the farmers' market is accepting vendors. Contact Jo Estrada at jaestrada@pasadenaedc.com to participate as an artist, and Kayla Henslee at Texasmarkets@outlook.com to reserve a table as a market vendor.

The Market at Crenshaw Shifts to Friday Nights in the Summer

Texas Markets is active year-round and usually hosts farmers' markets in Pasadena on Sundays. However, as summer temperatures climb, the market shifts. It brings the markets to Friday evenings from June through August to take advantage of the cooler night climate.

Market attendees can meet a variety of local vendors at the market, picking up honey, baked goods, and other crafts. There is also hot food and prepared meals from food trucks available. Henslee says there are typically around 30 vendors for each market, but noticed a jump in applications for the art walk.

“Everyone wants to be at the first art walk,” she says.

One of the best reasons to attend the market is for seasonal produce. This week, peaches and plums are ready to buy. Grab a basket and enjoy these summer treats.

The Market Started in 2024

Henslee started hosting the farmers' market in 2024, seeing a need for a weekend market in her community. Her daughter has eczema, and Henslee would visit local farmers' markets to find vendors who sell natural topical creams. Not only was this a good way to buy from local businesses, but it also provided fun outings for her family.

In the past few years, Texas Markets has developed a following with repeat vendors and residents who enjoy purchasing local goods and enjoying the hot food and food trucks. This art walk event is a great opportunity to showcase local talent, attract new faces, and turn new visitors into weekend regulars.
