How Pasadena Got Its Name:
In 1893, John H. Burnett of Galveston purchased 16,000 acres in southeastern Harris County. This land was part of a larger area he promoted for agriculture, describing it as ideal for farming fruits and vegetables thanks to the fertile soil and access to rail transportation. He platted the townsite and marketed it aggressively, emphasizing its potential to become a thriving farming community.
He is credited with naming it “Pasadena” because it reminded him of the rich, green landscapes around Pasadena, California.
